#31DC2014 - Day 30: Inspired By A Tutorial

I can't believe we've reached the second to the last day of the challenge! Today's nails I did using a tutorial posted by Chelsea Queen here. I found it when I saw Chalkboard Nails' Day 14 Floral Print nails.

I used the same amount of polishes that Chelsea used in her video, just different brands. I started with a base of Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Black Creme and then for the flowers I used Wet N' Wild Mega Last - Candy-licious and Sinful Colors - Snow Me White. I blended those to get a light pink to highlight with. For the leaves I used Sinful Colors - Happy Ending mixed with white and then on it's own to highlight.

I really love these. I think floral nails are amazing because they look like fabric prints and look so complicated but really aren't hard at all, especially when following this tutorial.

#31DC2014 - Day 29: Inspired By The Supernatural

Guys, I've got a confession to make: I didn't paint these today. Nope. I actually painted these last year for Halloween 2013. I never posted them, they totally fit with today's theme and it's finally close enough to Halloween for me to post them, so here they are.

I got the idea for these because my cousin texted me a bunch of inspiration pics that she found. Little did she know that I'd end up not doing just one design, but every one! I added a few of my own too.

I won't list what polishes I used because I used way too many.

I told you that Jack Skellington would make an appearance sooner or later!

These are getting me into the Halloween mood even more. I don't have a cute pic to go along with these, so here's my newest freestyle that I just posted on my youtube. I used the beat to Eminem & Rihanna's "The Monster" so it goes along with these nails perfectly.

Been an admirer of Karloff & Lugosi
It isn't really that far off if you know me
And monsters make better company than the ones I meet
Approach these crowds a bit uncomfortably
You couldn't stop & refrain from mocking us as insane
When you're the one getting laughed at, at Mockingbird Lane
What's with the cocky wordplay?
I enrolled in Monster High, now I eat off the popular plate

#31DC2014 - Day 28: Inspired By A Flag

I've probably mentioned before on here that I'm mixed Dutch-Indonesian and French. I've even written a rap dedicated to Indo food. But today I'm bringing you nails inspired by the country I was born in, the American flag.

The blue is Revlon - Royal layered over a base of Sinful Colors - Snow Me White, which I used for my white stripes along with Wet N' Wild Mega Last - I Red A Good Book.

I wore these with a vintage looking red. white, and blue dress and did faux victory rolls, so I decided to throw in a nautical twist and did gold anchors using Kleancolor - Americano.

I love the classic look of cat eyes and red lipstick.

I also love the pinup style and I'm totally inspired by it. I think it tied in with the theme well.

#31DC2014 - Day 27: Inspired By Artwork

For today's nails, I knew what I was going to do the second that I saw a fan brush in a Fing'rs Heart 2 Art kit: Bob Ross inspired nails!

For those who don't know, Bob Ross' show "The Joy Of Painting" airs on PBS, and I've been watching it with some of my relatives for years. He always paints pine trees with a fan brush, so I decided that after years of watching, I'd try it out myself.

I think I pulled it off! Nails are quite a bit smaller than a canvas, so I couldn't do an entire scene. I started off with two coats of Kleancolor - Pastel Blue, then I sponged on Sinful Colors - Snow Me White to create some happy little clouds. I used a striper brush with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Espresso to create the tree trunks and then using the fan brush I applied Love & Beauty - Teal to create the trees. I used a Snowman Polish in green and Sinful Colors - Happy Ending to highlight the trees.

Here are my nails with a picture of Bob Ross painting his famous happy little trees. I love how he makes art easy to do for anyone.

I have to say doing these were pretty relaxing, and I'm happy with how they turned out. So if you're feeling a little stressed, don't worry, the challenge is almost over, and take this advice:

#31DC2014 - Day 26: Inspired By A Pattern

Today I've got more fashion inspired nails for you. These are inspired by the plaid pattern on a pair of leggings that I have.

I used Wet N' Wild Mega Last - I Red A Good Book and a Kiss Nail Art Striper in Black.

Here's a picture of the nails with the leggings.

I've been wanting to try plaid nails for awhile now. They're simple to do but the overall look is awesome.

#31DC2014 - Day 25: Inspired By Fashion

It's been awhile since I've done any fashion and OOTD posts here, especially with the 31 Day Challenge, it's been all nail art. Today I've got the best of both worlds: nail art inspired by an OOTD!

These nails are inspired by an outfit, especially the pants I wore.

I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Cinna-Snap, Sinful Colors - Nirvana, Hot Topic - Matte Black, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Espresso and Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Black Creme for some of the detail on my flowers. This was my first time trying out the dry brush technique on the flower nails and I think it makes a pretty cool base.

Here's a close-up of the pants.

And here's the OOTD.

Those pants that I adore I got as a gift. The top is from Target and the shoes are from Fashion Q.

I did rockabilly kitten ears in my hair for the first time, I think they look a bit like faux victory rolls.

I love this OOTD and I love the nails just as much. They're perfect for Fall and I can definitely see myself using mixing and matching the pieces and polishes to create new looks.

#31DC2014 - Day 24: Inspired By A Book

I had a conundrum with today's nails: what book to use? Truth be told, most of my favorite books don't translate to nail art very well. I mean, what could I do for Catcher In The Rye nails? And I already did nails inspired by The Hunger Games a few years ago.

So can you guess which book I used?

If you guessed Twilight, you're correct! Breaking Dawn to be exact. I did a version of the chessboard on the cover and then painted the rest of my nails sparkling silver with blood drips.

I used Sinful Colors - Snow Me White and Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Black Creme for the chessboard. For the other nails I used Santee - Twinkle Silver and Silver Glitter, then did the blood drips with Sinful Colors - Ruby Ruby.

I dedicate these to my cousin, who's the biggest Twilight fan I know.

I dig these and think they'll be perfect for Halloween. Without the silver sparkles of course.

#31DC2014 - Day 23: Inspired By A Movie

I totally stumbled upon these nails, which are inspired by the movie Frozen!

I probably wouldn't have picked Frozen at first, but after looking at this color combo and picturing dots that look like falling snow, it fits.

I used Chameleon - Blue Frost as a base. Perfect name for Frozen nails, right? Then I lightly applied Sinful Colors - Cinderella and dabbed at it with a sponge to blend. I finished it off by dotting on Kleancolor - Pastel Blue and Sinful Colors - Gorgeous.

Of course I had to go find my good friend Olaf and he photobombed me while taking pics. :)

I think these nails are worthy of Princess Elsa, and I could see her rocking these to match her dress.

#31DC2014 - Day 22: Inspired By A Song

I knew from the start of this challenge what song I was gonna use for this, Eminem - Survival.

I've been wanting to paint the Call Of Duty skull on my nails ever since the music video came out last year. Plus this song just makes me wanna jump up and start spittin the best punchlines I've ever written.

I did the skull on my ring finger, the signs "THIS IS SURVIVAL" and the "quit" with a line through it, and then I just did plain black matte and tried out doing camo for the first time.

I used Love & Beauty - Ivory, Hot Topic - Matte Black, and four colors from the Sinful Colors Adventure Island collection - Adventure Island, Seaweed Green, Open Seas, and Rise & Shine. I also used a black Kiss nail art striper.

Oh you know my copy of MMLP2 is the deluxe edition!

I love that skull so much, I don't really wanna take it off tomorrow. Can I just keep these nails and use the lyric book from this CD for my Inspired By A Book post?

#31DC2014 - Day 21: Inspired By A Color

I had to think a little about this day, because the first 10 days were all color themed and I didn't want to do any repeats. Then it hit me, pink wasn't covered during the first 10 days (which I think is actually surprising).

I decided to do pink and what could be more pink than kawaii Hello Kitty nails?

I used Wet N' Wild Mega Last - Candy-licious, Love & Beauty - Ivory, Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Tickled Pink, Wet N' Wild Chrome - Precious Petals, Salon Perfect - Glow Pink, Sinful Colors - Decadent, and Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Black Creme for the stamping.

I combined a couple different techniques to do these. I used my Born Pretty Store plate for the Hello Kitty images. The sticker on my ring finger was done doing decal stamping. I actually made the decal a month or two ago when I first heard about decal stamping, and it held up even in the summer heat.

Once again I used my glow in the dark base for the glitter, Glow Pink makes a pretty base anyways for Decadent.

Hello Kitty + bling + polka dots = the perfect nails to be inspired by pink.

#31DC2014 - Day 20: Water Marble

Ahh water marble. Each year I've watched other bloggers do the challenge, I think this day is one of the ones everyone hates the most.

I've always had pretty good results with water marbling. Of course, I happened to grab polishes that worked great with it. Today was an experiment in itself.

I was inspired by a necklace, so I used China Glaze - Millenium, Kleancolor - Americano, Revlon - Espresso, and Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Black Creme to match it. Yes, I do realize that sounds partly like a Starbucks menu. :)

Here's the necklace that I was inspired by. The necklace looks like it's water marbled.

All in all, I was satisfied with these nails.

The first two sets of prompts are done, one more set to go!

#31DC2014 - Day 19: Galaxy

Today was another day I looked forward to, because I've been patiently waiting to try out another new polish.

The polish is Sinful Colors - Starry Night, which I found in the new Halloween display at Walgreens. Amazingly, I walked away from the display with only this polish, but looking at the new limited edition glitters, it's definitely making me want to go back.

Starry Night is a black jelly with lots of multicolored glitter and some gold shards mixed in. I want to almost call it a galaxy in a bottle. I did galaxy nails once before, which you can view here. Since there was already so much glitter and dimension in my base, I used less polishes this time.

I sponged on Sinful Colors - Snow Me White and then sponged over that with two other untried polishes I have, Chameleon - Blue Frost and Chameleon - Ballerina.

Yes, I own galaxy leggings. I love galaxies, mmkay.

#31DC2014 - Day 18: Half Moons

I've mentioned a couple times already how much I love vintage and retro styles, so when it came to today's nails, my motto was "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I went with classic red half moon nails. Inspired by the lovely Dita Von Teese.

To achieve this look, all I used were some hole reinforcement stickers and then painted on Wet N' Wild Mega Last - I Red A Good Book. Topped off with quick dry topcoat and these babies are shining.

This would look awesome with a cool pinup hair style and a red flower in my hair.

I've been rockin the half moon look a lot recently, although usually I do them in black. I have to say that I really like the red too. Sophisticated, classy, and oozing with old Hollywood glamour. Love.

#31DC2014 - Day 17: Glitter

I've been waiting for this day to come!

I picked up Sinful Colors - Decadent a few weeks ago and I've been waiting to use it until today. I layered it over Salon Perfect - Glow Pink. More on that in a minute.

Of course, like a crazy person, I decided to try to cover every nail in glitter. For my non-polish lovers who are wondering why that would be crazy, well let's just say glitter is hard to take off. That's a nice way of putting it haha.
The glitter isn't all that dense so I covered as much as I could and then did a tip gradient.

My aunt bought my cousin and I these glittery birdcages and I think it's probably the most glittery thing I own. Maybe.

I did an experiment with these. I just can't seem to find OPI's peel off base coat, and something like that seemed like a must with these. I remember using Glow Pink for my Halloween 2012 nails and the polish peeled off perfectly. I decided to try using it as a base.

Well it did sort of work. Back in 2012, I wore those nails for a few days before they peeled off in sheets. With so many layers of glitter polish, my nails didn't dry all the way and I wanted to take it off before I got it everywhere. It did peel off, although it was sticky and mushy.

It worked good enough for me though. I got most of it off and then used a bit of polish remover to get all of it. It saved me time and effort for sure.

Long story short? In a pinch try a glow in the dark base for your glitter!

#31DC2014 - Day 16: Geometric

Whenever I do tribal inspired nails, I tend to just go wild and do whatever I feel like on each nail. You can check out some of the ones I've done here and more recently, here.

I went with a different method this time. I was inspired by a sweater that I own.

You can certainly bet that the polishes used were Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Black Creme and Sinful Colors - Snow Me White.

This print has more of a geometric, or Southwestern style to it.

Yet again, here is something that I've never worn. It's so cute and perfect for Fall. I'm patiently waiting for it to be cool enough for me to wear. Of course, if the temps could just get below 90, I'd be happy.

#31DC2014 - Day 15: Delicate Print

When it comes to delicate print, I think of cherries. Not only are they delicate, but dainty and girly too. I think cherry print is so cute.

I used Love & Beauty - Ivory for my base, Wet N' Wild Mega Last - I Red A Good Book for my half moons, tips, and cherries, and Sinful Colors - Happy Ending for the leaves.

Told ya that I liked cherries. My lipstick is Wet N' Wild Silk Finish - Cherry Frost. Now isn't that just the cherry on top.

#31DC2014 - Day 14: Flowers

Today's nails are brought to you by the letter M for Michael's.

I found some really cute stickers there and decided to use them for today's theme.

I used Wet N' Wild Mega Last - Candy-licious and then stuck on some flower stickers and some 3D stickers called Bling On A Roll.

Would you like a cup of tea?

I've always been inspired by 3D Japanese nail art, it's so kawaii. I'm really happy with these.

One of the reasons that I've never tried the 31 Day Challenge before is that I didn't like the idea of working so hard and making really detailed nails and then having to take them off the next day.

But with these, I took them off right away. I just KNOW I'd end up with little gems everywhere!

#31DC2014 - Day 13: Animal Print

Oh animal print. When I first got into nail art all I wanted to be able to do was cheetah and zebra print. When I ordered my first Konad supplies, I had to include plate m57 just for the animal print.

For these nails, I decided to try out drawing zebra print. I used Love & Beauty - Ivory for the base, Kleancolor - Metallic Orange for the gradient, and a Kiss nail art striper in black for the stripes. These came out looking like tiger print.

All animal print everything. I told you I love animal print. <3

#31DC2014 - Day 12: Stripes

I have a fascination with everything vintage, retro, etc. There's something about the hair, makeup, and the cars from yesteryear that just have so much style.

That said, I've always loved the pinstripe suit and fedora. Maybe in today's times this look is more associated with pimps, but man do I think men back in the day looked classy rockin it.

That was the inspiration behind these nails. Simple yet sophisticated.

I've been trying out techniques during this challenge, so I used striping tape for the first time. So much better than trying to paint straight lines.

I couldn't do these nails without one of my fedoras making its way into a picture.

Another reason I love these nails? They remind me to Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I was really tempted to paint a bowtie and his face but I decided not to. It's almost Halloween season, so I'm sure he'll pop up on my nails sooner or later. :)

#31DC2014 - Day 11: Polka Dots

These ain't your grandmama's polka dots.

I've done polka dots a few times before, like these and more recently these, so I wanted to do something different.

I ended up with these, and I like them. From far away, it looks like plaid on my nails.

I used Sinful Colors - Bianca for my base color, and then of course, Sinful Colors - Snow Me White and Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Black Creme for my polka dots.

It's the kickoff of the second set of prompts, and I'm excited for the next few days.

#31DC2014 - Day 10: Gradient Nails

Today's nails are the first time I'm trying out a cotton candy gradient. These came out so cute and kawaii, they remind me to My Little Pony.

I used Love & Beauty - Ivory as a base, then did the gradient with Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Tickled Pink and Kleancolor - Pastel Blue. I topped it all off with Santee - Moon Light Glitter and placed a few stars from it on my pointer and ring fingers.

Of course this made me crave actual cotton candy.

Look at how delicious it looks, I wanna grab it right out of my laptop monitor. Now I need to go find some.

#31DC2014 - Day 9: Rainbow Nails

I've had this day in the back of my mind for awhile now because today is the day Apple is having their special event. AKA we all know it's the day they're going to announce the iPhone 6.

I was inspired by this logo that I found here.

So I just had to do nails to celebrate the occasion especially since the rainbow theme fit so perfectly.

I kept my China Glaze - Millenium on from yesterday's nails, including the Pretty Woman Holographic Nail Art foil that I had on my ring finger. I used some of the rainbow foil from the kit for the rest of my fingers.

As you can see, I got better at applying the foil as I did more nails. Here's a little trick I learned from a youtube video: wait 2 minutes for the glue to dry.

For me at least, the longer I waited, the better the foil applied. Treat it like lash glue: the more clear and tacky it is, the better.

Here you can see the red on my thumb better. I'm so pleased with the gradient look of it.

For my apple, I started with a base of Sinful Colors - Snow Me White. The green is Sinful Colors - Irish Green, the yellow is L.A. Girl Disco Brites - Psychedelic, the orange is Wet N' Wild Wild Shine - Sunny Side Up, the red is Wet N' Wild MegaLast - I Red A Good Book, the purple is a mix of the red and Revlon - Royal, and the blue is a mix of Royal and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Brisk Blue.

Once again I found a necklace that matched my nails perfectly.

Are you excited for the iPhone 6?
